External Images (URL Based) don't display on deployed reports

Hello,
I have a RS 2005 report which uses a report parameter as the source for an
image external image. When in report designer, everything works fine. When
deployed, the image shows as red x.
I am not using unattended credentials since the image is accessible without
credentials. I even tried images from microsoft.com and cnn.com
Any help would be appreciated.
-PedroHi Pedro,
Probabily the image directory is not proper. Just right click on the Red x
or view source to see where the image points to and check the directory for
your image. Better to include it in your project so that the link is not lost.

External Image URL doesn't work !

Hi
I have downloaded SP1, and am trying to display an image by URL.
I have followed the steps described in the SP1Readme. However i am still unable to view my image in the "Preview" mode in report designer and also through report server. When i right click to view the source of my webpage, the image src is empty like this <img class="R1" src="http://pics.10026.com/?src=">.
Any idea, what can be wrong? This is what i did:
1) set in designer Source=External
2) set Value=http://localhost/Webmodule/test.img
3) image immediately showed up
4) Go to "Preview" mode in designer, image shows a red cross
5) ran rsconfig -e -m mycomputer -s mycomputer -u user1 -p password
6) deploy .rdl onto report server
7) image still shows a red cross
8) when view source, it shows <img class="R1" src="http://pics.10026.com/?src=">
I have set my datasource credentials to "credentials stored securely on report server" and provided the username and password in the report manager.
chiara.IMG is an unsupported image format. Supported are bmp, jpeg, gif, png, and
x-png.

Extending the number of rows returned per page in RS

Is there a way to extend the number of rows that will be returned so that Reporting services doesn't display such a large number of pages for the users to page through? It would be easier for them to "wheel mouse" through a long page on the screen.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on how this might be accomplished?

Thanks!

Travis

Here are a couple of options:

- set PageBreakAtEnd and PageBreakAtStart to false on your tables/matrices/grouping panels

- make your row heights smaller, use a smaller font

- filter your data better, or group it into smaller groups and have each group rendered into its own table, turn off paging on those tables

But turning off paging looks okay when viewing the report in the browser, but can make the report look like *** when exported to PDF.

Expression Problem Using a Multi-Select Parameter

I have a rectangle region in a report that contains a graph and a table. I want to display that list region only when the user selects a "Select All" from a multi-select report parameter. This rectangle region is used only to display summary data for All Agencies.

My report also contains a list region with graphs and tables, where I display data for each agency (my detail group), and page-break on each agency.

The problem I am experiencing occurs when using the Expression Builder for the Visibility property for my rectangle and list regions. Since a multi-select parameter is an array, I am forced to select an element in my paramater such as =Parameters!Agency.Value(0). When the user chooses "(Select All)", the first element is the first agency in the list. I don't want that.

How can I get Reporting Services to display a rectangle or list region when "Select All" is chosen, and to hide that rectangle or list region when one or more agencies are chosen from a multi-select parameter?

I have tried using Agency.Label and I've tried other expressions such as Parameters!Agency.Count = Count(Agency.Value), etc, without success.

If you're on SP0 or SP2 or later, the Select All option is always there. It's not really a checkbox you can detect. It's just a shortcut way for selecting/deselecting all options.

I've reported this as an enhancement. You should be able to tell whether they've selected all possible options:

https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=124515

At that link I describe a couple of possible workarounds. Hope that helps.

There is currently no built-in functionality, but here are some ideas to achieve what you are looking for:

* if the multi value parameter has a pre-defined (constant) list of valid values, you know how many values are available for selection. The report parameters in RS 2005 expose a new property called .Count which tells you the count of selected parameter values (e.g. =Parameters!P1.Count). Hence, you could compare the count of the selected values with the count of the total values.

* if the multi value parameter has a dataset-based valid values list, you could just use the same field in a CountDistinct aggregate function to determine how many valid values are available, e.g. =CountDistinct(Fields!A.Value) and compare it again with the Count of selected values (e.g. =Parameters!P1.Count).

Expression Data Type Conversion

I am getting the following error in my report. I am tring to program the BackgroungColor Expression so the if the value is null display a blue color else leave it white.

Conversion from string "" to type 'Date' is not valid

Here is my code sample:

=Iif(Fields!ReturnTime.Value = "", "AliceBlue", "White")

Hi RayClark,

You cannot compare a string with a date.
You can do this in several ways here is one:

=IIF(Len(Fields!ReturnTime.Value)=0, "AliceBlue", "White")

Use the length function to check the length of return time. If it is 0 set it to alice blue else set it to white :).

Exporting To PDF With Chinese/Jap Characters

Hi all!I have created a report that may display Chinese, Korean and Japanese characters. Everything is fine on the report itself when rendered in the browser, all the characters are showing as it should be, but when I try to export it to pdf, all these characters turned into question marks ??.

I've tried installing Adobe Asian pack, but still I can't make these character shows up.Can anyone shed light on this? I'm doing a local report only BTW. Would there be any effect if I'll do it as a server report?

Anything that could get me started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've had these kind of issues to when I used what is supposed to be a unicode font, Arial. After switching to a different unicode font, MS Gothic, everything printed correctly. Try that.

Eric

|||:O that's weird, but I'll try it tomorrow in the office|||

I've tried MS Gothic, the chinese character showed correctly but for Jap, Korean and Thai it didn't :( So tried other fonts and the closest that can show Chinese, Jap & Korean is the font Batang, though it cannot display Thai :(

I've googled endlessly post on different forums but still got any clear answer as to if this is a limitation on SSRS or what.

Sorry I can't help you any more. I'm still pretty new to unicode fonts.

I'm having the same exact issue. I tried using Batang as a font but it still will not show up properly in pdf. have you found a fix for this?

|||

No prob Eric. Actually you already helped me when you said try using other fonts. It will be my temporary fix for the mean time.

@.user

I dunno if the Asian Language pack from adobe would help. I have installed it before I tried changing the font style on the report.
