External web service as datasource for Reporting Service report

Hello,
I would like to make some Reporting Services reports from a datasource
that is a web service. Is this possible? I am using SSRS 2005. Any
suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.
photogulliverIt is possible but I haven't done it. Read up in Books On Line on XML.

however, there are serious limitations on this approach. see other
postings in this group by me and Teo's responses to my postings.
1. the XML returned by the web service may not be readily consumable by
SSRS.
2. the query syntax to consume the XML is xpath like, but it is neither
xpath not xquery
3. security is a big concern. webservices consumption is non-secure
however, you can write your own custom data processing extension which
can overcome the above limitations.

External scheduler for reports

Hi, here is my problem:
Because of some usability terms, I need to use SSRS scheduler to determine reports creation frequency (minimum frequency is once a day)I need to use an external scheduler to SSRS in order to launch reports creation daily, after some other batch tasks execution that must be completed before launching report creation.
And I have no idea on how to do that properly. Can somebody help me?

Hi,

Reporting Services has scheduling functionality included by default. You can use both report based schedules as global schedules to update your reports.

To use schedules, you must make sure that your reports are using fixed credentials to connect to the database (so no integrated security).

You can set up the schedules via the report manager.

I think I expressed myself in a bad way.
Creating my reports needs some batch tasks to be completed. These batch tasks are planed by a company scheduler.
So, my problem is that I want to be able to change report creation time (e.g. from 2am to 3 or 4am) with this company scheduler to ensure that all batch tasks had been totally completed before report creation starts.|||

You can also create a .NET executable that creates the snapshot and then call the executable after the batch has been finished. This way you are sure that the batches are finished.

extending function: view dependencies

So I have a number of separate databases on my SQL 2005 Server.

I also have a number of Reports in SSRS.

Many of the stored procedures in the various databases reference tables, functions, and stored procedures in other databases on the same server.

How can I accomplish the effect of right clicking on a stored procedure for instance, clicking view dependencies, and having everything show up in that list, not just the items in that DB?

It is all stored in the database in one form or another, but I must be missing some crucial piece to integrating it all together.

Note: I did not design this system, just maintaining and modifying existing items. There are no schemas to speak of. SSRS will most likely move to a dedicated server at one point with other data warehousing functions, so the ability to span servers would be useful.

Mhmm, I think this is not possible unless you parse the procedue on your own. There are no entries for dependencies in the system tables created for non-db-local objects. Additionally you can′t use schemabinding for maintainance as schemabinding applies only to two part names.

Expression Problem - GrandTotal

In my SSRS 2005 report I have a column in my table that I cannot get a SUM in my table footer (I'm not referring to report footer!!) due to the way it is calculated. Here's the low down:

I will focus just on the columns in my table unique to this problem. Remember, I'm using a Table Control in SSRS 2005, not just a Body section!!!

In my table I have:

Commission % ProjGross ProjFee

.25 1000 ProjGross * Commission %

.50 2000 ProjGross * Commission %

.7 3000 ProjGross * Commission %

...

ProjFee = ProjGross x Comission %

the values above are in a Group. The column's group values render fine and are correct using this formula in my ProjFee's group textbox:

=(Round((((SUM(Fields!PostedAmount_InHouse.Value) + SUM(Fields!NewPDs_Check.Value) + SUM(Fields!NewCCs_Check.Value)) / Sum(Fields!CurrentPostingDay.Value, "Current_Posting_Day")) * (Sum(Fields!TotalPostingDays.Value, "TotalPostingDays") - Sum(Fields!CurrentPostingDay.Value, "Current_Posting_Day"))) +

(SUM(Fields!PostedAmount_InHouse.Value) + SUM(Fields!OldPDs_Check.Value) + SUM(Fields!NewPDs_Check.Value) + SUM(Fields!OldCCs_Check.Value) + SUM(Fields!NewCCs_Check.Value)))) * (Fields!FeeSchedule.Value / 100)

So, now for the problem. I cannot just create an expression in my table footer like the one this below because it would only take the first commission %25 and wouldn't represent a true some of the column ProjFee. YOu can't total up Commission % or you'd get a wacky % somthing like 500%!

=ProjGross * Commsion %

I don't want to do this totaling in SQL first either...and can't; there's a lot more behind this calculation which is why and the SQL would be horrendous. I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna handle the Commission % in my table footer Total for this column.

Since I cannot just reference the Group column's name in my footer and do a SUM on that field (it's out of scope) I don't know what else to try

All I want to do is get my Footer GT to work. The formulas I have in both the group field and footer field for ProjGross are as follows:

Footer (right under group)

I’ve played around with moving the SUM in the Footer field since that works sometimes but no luck so far. If I could only refrence the Group field and just do SUM(groupfieldname) but that’s something I have asked and nobody seems to know why you can’t do that in a SSRS 2005 table when you’re trying to do that in a Footer field to sum a Group field by referencing the Group field’s label name. SSRS 2005 gives you an error when you try doing that saying that you must stay in scope when referencing names and you can’t reference a Group name forma footer textbox in a table. That would sure make my life easier than trying to fiddle around with the SUM I have in my footer textbox to try to get it to work

|||am I just not explaining myself or is SSRS 2005 ending up to be just like Crystal where you have to figure out quirky ways to get things done? The fact of the matter is, I can't simply do a sum on a column by referencing a group's textbox name from the table footer expression. If you are dealing with very complex expressions and you m ust only use an expression and cannot reference a group field directly from the footer, you are left with what I have tried to do above...which is a nightmare because my GT is not coming out and I don't know if it can because of the Commission % (Feesched) being a % and you can's sum a % in the footer like this for an overall GT

Expression help needed with filtering

I have a fcolum in my ssrs report that give me $ amounts. the problem is I only want to see the the fields that have $.01 dollars or greater it is now showing blanks and $0.00 in some of the fields I need tofilter this out in the expression statement can some on help me with this.

example

john doe | $102.00 | ( I need to keep this )

Jane doe | | ( I dont want this to show) This just shows a blank

Mark Doe | $0.00 | ( I dont want this to show)

Bill Doe | $200.00 | ( I want this)

my expression =FormatCurrency(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value)

What do you want to show if the value is 0? Do the FormatCurrency only if the value is > 0. Something like this:

=IIF(convert.todecimal(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value) > 0, FormatCurrency(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value), '')

Yeah Reporting Services is weird. Try this:

=IIF(CDec(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value) > 0, FormatCurrency(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value), '')

What do you want to show if the value is blank? It this good:

= IIF(CDec(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value)>0, FormatCurrency(Fields!MASRCAMOUNT.Value), FormatCurrency(CDec(0)))

Expression as Hyperlink

We are using SSRS SP2 in SharePoint integrated mode and when I use an
expression that results in a URL that I use for a hyperlink in a report, it
works in Visual Studio but not in report viewer. If I use a static URL it
works fine.
Upon inspection of the source that is returned by SSRS when using an
expression for the URL, it doen's even add the <a href=> tag to the resulting
HTML. It is as if SSRS won't process an expression for a hyperlink but
Visual Studio's preview will. How am I supposed to have dynamic hyperlinks
in my reports? Any ideas?Are you using jump to URL? I use an expression all the time in there but not
with Sharepoint.

The only difference is that we have a popup window that opens a server
report in PDF format using URL access and within this report there are
hyperlinks to webpages.On clicking the hyperlinks from within the report we
get the following error :
"Internet explorer cannot download.Unspecified error".
we have used javascript in the jump to URL expression:

version really matter in this case.I read some where that we need need SP1

If you are trying this from the development environment it won't work. You

>|||OK, now I understand. The issue is not getting the link to work from normal
html report. That is working for you. The issue is having the link work from
a PDF. I tried some tests from PDF and Excel. Excel usually had no problem.
PDF would flash and nothing would come up.
I also tried the link without using the javascript command. That would be
erratic, sometimes working sometimes not. I think some sort of security
setting is getting in the way.

the setting on to allow popups and i have also added the site as a trusted
site in the IE settings.I also looked at the adobe reader settings under
edit-->preferences-->javascript the enable Acrobat javascript checkbox is
